Yesterday Raees Tomorrow Shahabuddin?

It is a million dollar question, why did Rahul Dholakia made Raees and what is that he felt to be told? If he is making Raees based on Irfan Latif, it would be different. Then he can’t cast popular star like Shah Rukh Khan as a big-time bootlegger and as wanted for over 100 cases of murder, contract killing, extortion, rioting, kidnappings, smuggling and 1993 Mumbai blasts with 243 cases against his gang including 64 murders and 14 kidnappings. He had to show him as a Robinhood and always taking care of people irrespective of their religion. He killed people but has some reason to kill. As per the director, “He was good man who did bad things”.

All these directors who try to make gangster films, like to the success of maverick director Ram Gopal Varma who made great films in that genre. Satya was a cult classic followed by Company based on gangsters. This films were made well and do not try to show that there is a soft side for these gangsters. Raees was made based on a criminal and the director says it is not based on the life of Irfan Latif and shows a proof. In the film, Raees killed Musa who Dawood Ibrahim character, but in real life, Dawood is still alive. This shows that the director is telling the people the story is made on the bootlegger’s life with small changes.

What’s next? Will these filmi people make a film on Shahbuddin in future and show his as a good guy who does bad things. Then politicians used him and killed him in encounter? There is not much difference between Irfan Latif and Shahabuddin. Why can’t the same film makers make films on sincere police officers or show the reality of corrupted politicians and brutality of gangsters. They should stick to the plot and show the gangster as a bad guy and not make Robinhood out of every bad guy.
