Vetaran actress Reema Lagoo passed away in Mumbai due to cardiac arrest. She played memorable mom roles on screen in huge block busters like Hum Aapke Hai Kaun. She was taken to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital as she complained of chest pain on Wednesday where she breathed her last. She was only 59.
During Amitabh Bachchan decade, Nirupa Roy played his mom in many films and that was the generation of angry young man. The society and the youth were angered and the people were suffering with no jobs and slow economy. Reema Lagoo was the next generation mother to all the fun children. Mostly her characters are from rich families in the films. Though she got the creative satisfaction from Marathi films, she gained worldwide popularity with Bollywood. Whether one likes the goody goody films or not, but one can’t stop liking Reema Lagoo as lovely mom of two young girls in Hum Aapke hai kaun or playing Kaikeyi role in Hum Saath Saath Hain. She almost started the Bollywood career with the blockbusters Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Maine Pyar Kiya.
Reema Lagoo played Mother India for Sanjay Dutt in Vaastav. This was an intense character and both mother and son played the roles very well and this film was a milestone in Sanjay Dutt’s career. Though she didn’t have any significant mom roles lately, she would be forever remembered as a beautiful and a wonderful mother in some of the blockbuster films.
